History Of Wilevco
1955 - First Automatic Mixer Sold
Wilevco’s founder, Putnam P. Flint, visits the Gorton’s fish stick factory in Gloucester, Massachusetts, to sell a piece of equipment. While there he notices that the fish sticks are inconsistent and traces the production line back to where the batter was mixed by hand. Seeing that there was a better way to get consistent batter, and in turn, more consistent product with higher yield, he developed and patented the first Automatic Batter Mixer with viscosity control.
1965 - Wilevco Becomes A Company
Based off the success of his first mixers, Putnam Flint incorporates Wilevco. One version of the origin of the company name is that it stands for “will evaluate viscosity continuously.”
1968 - First CRYOLATOR®
Introduction of the CRYOLATOR®, the original swept surface heat exchanger. Developed specifically for chilling batter for food safety reasons, the CRYOLATOR® delivers unparalleled performance in temperature control. Delivering batter consistently chilled has also proven beneficial to consistent pickup and improved solids retention. As well, it has been successfully utilized in a variety of other temperature transfer applications including liquid process chilling of sauces, gravies and protein slurries.
1969 - Move To Stanley Steamer Building
Wilevco moves into the former Stanley Steamer headquarters in Watertown, MA. At one time it was the largest structural concrete building in the world.
1970's - The Series V Mixer
The Series V mixer expanded Wilevco’s reach to high volume producers.
1980's - John Whitmore & Gerry Clark
1980's - Our Team
Wilevco team members assembling a mixing system with the Cryolator.
1992 - Leverett Flint Becomes President
Leverett Flint, son of founder Putnam Flint, takes over as company President, and was popular for supplying Wilevco customers with honey from the family’s own beehives.
1994 - Moved To Current Location
Wilevco moves to its current location in Billerica, MA. The facility includes ample space for offices, machine assembly, parts warehousing, and a customer test kitchen.
2002 - Spinning Disc Applicator
The revolutionary Spinning Disc Applicator (SDA) is developed. Utilizing its unique, patented spinning disc technology, the nozzleless system can uniformly and precisely apply coatings of all types and viscosities, including with particulate.
2010 - Leverett Flint Recognized
Leverett Flint accepts the Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) Certificate of Achievement.
2016 - Wilevco Going Green
Environmentally responsible solar panels are installed, reducing Wilevco’s carbon footprint while minimizing costs.
2017 - New Series 9 Mixer
2020 - Robert Reiser Joins Wilevco
After nearly 6 decades of guidance from the Flint family, the company transfers to a new ownership group who immediately reinvests in the company – adding engineering talent, hiring the company’s first road sales and service teams, and increasing parts and machine inventory.
